Developing sustainable social care budgets and services in London

Layden House, 76-86 Turnmill Street, London EC1M 5LG
Free to attend for all councils. £345 for all other non-member organisations

This free half day event has been organised by the LGA, in partnership with the London Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS), Association of London Directors of Children’s Services (ALDCS), Society of London Treasurers (SLT) and London Councils.

In the context of reducing public finances, the majority of unitary and upper tier councils are experiencing pressure on budgets relating to adult and children’s social care. Increasing demand is making the challenge even more acute. The LGA has been working with a number of councils to deliver sector-led improvements and efficiencies in social care services, to support the development of sustainable services for the future. These programmes have focused on children’s, adult and learning disability services, and health and care integration.  Several London Boroughs currently are and have been engaged with the programmes. The event is for councils to explore this work in more detail as well as learning developed by professional networks in London and elsewhere.

By sharing this learning, including case studies from participating councils, this event will enable senior colleagues in adult social care, children’s social care and finance across London to better understand ‘what works’, to consider the potential to extend learning and approaches into all areas of social care, and to support joint working and understanding across social care and finance disciplines.

This highly interactive event is designed to complement work underway in London ADASS, ALDCS, SLT and the London Finance Advisory Committee (LFAC) to better understand the risks and causes of financial pressures and to support councils to address these.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Professor John Bolton, Efficiency Advisor, LGA
  • Simon Williams, Director of Community and Housing, Merton Council
  • Edwina Grant, Children’s Improvement Advisor, LGA
  • Chris Munday, Commissioning Director for Children and  Young People, Barnet Council
  • Simon Pearce, Director of Adults and Older People’s Services, Greenwich Council
  • John Jackson, Care and Health Improvement Adviser, LGA
