Weekend food parcels for school children - Blair McPherson

 

Another school fund raising event nothing particularly unusual in that we have all got use to the idea that parents are expected to do their bit to help hard up schools. Except these parents and pupils walking round the athletics field have given up their Saturday morning to raise money for weekend food parcels. The school started offering pupils food parcels when they realised that some pupils were coming to school on Mondays very hungry. Teachers have since noticed an improvement in pupils behaviour and concentration. A spokes person for the parent teachers association said that the fundraising was necessary because they had two hundred pupils on the waiting list. This is not an inner city school, it does not draw from an especially deprived area    , the county say a third of school age children do not eat three square meals a day. This is not a school in England but in Florida. The USA to day us tomorrow?
