Abuse of Vulnerable Adults in England 2012-13 - data available from HSCIC

The Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) has today published the Abuse of Vulnerable Adults in England 2012-13 - Final Report . The related data and standard reports are now publicly available on the National Adult Social Care Intelligence Service (NASCIS). This Final 2012-13 AVA data supersedes the previous 2012-13 AVA data that was made available via NASCIS in October 2013 on a restricted basis to users in Local Authorities for management information purposes.

2012-13 is the last year for collection of the AVA return. Information about adult safeguarding activity will still be collected through a new Safeguarding Adults Return (SAR). Many of the same data items will continue to be collected but in a more summarised form. The data will be more focused on the outcomes of safeguarding activity and data on alerts will no longer be collected. HSCIC have launched a survey this week to understand progress in local authorities on the implementation of the SAR.  If you are the contact and did not receive this please contact HSCIC at safe.guarding1@hscic.gov.uk.

A consultation on SAR will be taking place during early 2014 to gather feedback about which outputs stakeholders would like the HSCIC to produce. The consultation will focus on how useful existing AVA products are (such as the csv data file and annex tables) and whether provisional materials are useful. To view or complete the consultation, please go to: http://www.hscic.gov.uk/consultations

If you have any other queries about NASCIS, please contact The HSCIC Contact Centre on 0845 300 6016 or via email at enquiries@hscic.gov.uk
