2012 Planning Regs - local advertisement requirement

Hi there we are about to embark on a pre-submission publication stage for a site allocations document. Looking in the new regs we cannot find any requirement to put a notice in the local press as previously required. Have we missed it elsewhere or do we really no longer have to do this?

Chris We have been looking at this too. We are preparing to publish our Core Strategy this summer and came to the conclusion that the regs make no mention of the need for any local advertisements. I've not been able to find any other reference to it elsewhere that would apply so assume the requirement has gone. However we are still intending to publish notices in the local press anyway, partly to be on the safe side.

Re: 2012 Planning Regs - local advertisement requirement

The regulations no longer require a local advertisement. One of the main reasons for removing this I understand was the cost to local authorities being in the region of £1000. The only reason I would place an advert was if it was in the Statement of Community Involvement that your local authority would do this. If it is in the SCI and you don't, you may run into 'legal' issues at examination. However, I would otherwise just save the Council £1000. There are plenty of otherways to engage communites (and amend your SCI quickly)! Suzanne
