NI 170 - Previously Developed land that has been vacant or derelict for mor

I am working out some targets for several of the national Indicators. NI 170 - Previously Developed land that has been vacant or derelict for more than 5 years - this uses a formular to work out the proportion - however element d - the area in hectares of developed land within is causing us some concerns and we are seeking guidance on how to acheive this number for a large rural authority like Mid Suffolk. Does anyone have an approach to do this? Any assistance on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

The handbook of definitions says that the total area of developed land is the area recorded for the relevant local authority for 2001 in the urban land figures published in the Urban Settlements report by DCLG. I contacted the Audit Commission because I couldn't find the document, and their response (on 12 June) was that CLG confirmed that the data would be published on their website shortly (hopefully within 2 weeks) - as yet I still haven't been able to find the data.

Re: NI 170 - Previously Developed land that has been vacant or derelict for

Thank you for your message, I've had some info from a Communities Officer, but I'm unsure of its help! "The details sought are not presently on the Communities web site, nor on the Previously Developed Land www.NLUD.org.uk. The extent of the urban settlement area in 2001 is reckoned to be :- CODE LA CODE NAME AREA_URBAN 42UE 3520 Mid Suffolk District 1,606.487 hectares Unfortunately for the Planning Officer, both the NLUD web site and Supplementary Table on the Communities web-site list sites regardless of age. For your information, as you will have surmised, the site particulars given on the (soon to be restored downloadable workbook) NLUD.org.uk web site exclude those sites described as Land type 6(or E) ie Land in use, without planning etc permission". Any views?!

Grant Kelly at CLG provided me with the figure for the 'urban area' for Newcastle. I think he is trying hard to get the report published somewhere, but in the meantime you could ask him for a figure. I spent ages looking for it and got tantalisingly close to getting it, but not quite. Got a reasonably precise map and a figure but excluding'smaller outlying areas'. What we have to do!! our figures are available at long last.... Message I've received from Grant Kelly: The document has now been published on the CLG website and can be found at www.communities.gov.uk/publications/planningandbuilding/urbansettlement2001 You will need to look in the Winzip file Local Authority level statistics for developed areas and consult the 2001 column.
