Waste Data Forum (for ideas in support of Waste DPD evidence base)

I would like to know if anyone is aware of a waste data forum (here or elsewhere) in existance to exchange ideas on ways to ensure the waste data evidence base for Waste Plan DPD's is as robust as possible. If not, I would be keen to hear of anyone interested in contributing to one if one was started. Thanks Paul

Re: Waste Data Forum (for ideas in support of Waste DPD evidence base)

Hello Paul. We are holding a series of waste events in September / October - part of each session is on the evidence base to support waste strategies. More details on the events page here http://www.pas.gov.uk/pas/core/page.do?pageId=119116 You may find a bit of ferocious networking over coffee helps you get enthusiasm for a waste forum. If so, we'd be happy to facilitate - maybe in a community of practice just for waste planners ? Rich

Hi Paul, We are not aware of a waste data forum, but we would be interested in contributing to a forum if one was started. In oue view this is clearly an area which local authority planners would benefit from sharing knowledge and experiences. We have been doing a lot of work to develop our waste evidence base over the last 9 months as part of work to prepare the County Durham Local Development Framework. You may find our Waste Technical Paper of interest, a link can be found on our Local Development Framework page on our website www.durham.gov.uk

Good idea Paul. There are waste data networks/forums already in existence, but not specifically on DPD evidence base. The RTABs partly fulfill this role and I think could be a good vehicle for getting something set up. We attempted to get a SERTAB waste data subgroup going last year, but it lacked anyone to lead it. Since then a South East Waste Annual Monitoring Group Steering Group has been in operation, coordinated by Adrian Lee. There is a National RTAB Chairs group which focuses heavily on data issues, led by Rob Murfin (Yorkshire + Humber) and Deborah Sacks (EERA). Following a waste data meeting with Defra and EA last year, a work programme was drawn up; work on C&I waste forecasting has now been carried out for each region.

PAS have set up a Community of Practice very recently called 'waste planning'. See http://www.communities.idea.gov.uk/welcome.do to register. Hopefully will provide a forum for us to share info!
