Replacing Local Plan Policies that are supplemented by SPD

We are preparing a new 2 stage plan - strategic principles and allocations/DM and are currently writing policies for inclusion in stage 1. When adopted, these would replace specifc policies in the current plan although some current policies would continue to be saved until replaced by part 2. Where current policies are supplemented by an SPD, could we simply transfer the SPD to the new policy (especially if there is no change in the policy approach) or would we have to continue to save the current supplemented policy so that we don't lose the SPD? This would be until such time that a new SPD supplementing the new policy has been prepared, acknowledging what the NPPF says about SPD. Any thoughts?
