<p>Our back hedge fronts a pavement and road. There are house on the other side of the road. We want to put a back pedestrian gate in, about 1.8m high. There was one many years ago but it is overgrown by hedge; a number of neighbours have gates; a few have garages. While reading planning guidelines I believe that as it fronts a road it can't be over one metre high without planning. &nbsp;The hedge is 2m high and we want to put in a taller gate for security.</p> <p>Say I can find the old gate under the hedge can I replace it with a 1.8m gate?</p> <p>or</p> <p>Do I need planning for a 1.8m gate if I can't find the old one under the hedge?</p>
