    <summary type="html">&lt;p&gt;Hi Claire, good to see that I was right about the legality of not using newpaper adverts. Re the evaluation, all evidence we have seen is that the most used methods of finding out&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;about planning applications is the website, individual letters, word of mouth, site notices, and and the very end (if at all) newspaper adverts.&amp;nbsp; So difficult to see that anyone would be disavantaged by there not being an advert.&lt;/p&gt;</summary>

&lt;p&gt;Thanks for your response.&amp;nbsp; We had a reply from our legal team who had established that it wasn't statutory, but that we would have to evaluate each application to make sure we weren't disadvantaging anyone.&lt;/p&gt;

    <summary type="html">Looked into this a while ago, and could find no requirement to place such an advert.&amp;nbsp; Checked with some neighoburing councils who mostly did not do it, so we stopped.&amp;nbsp; Reason forstopping were that its the least effective form of publicity we use and the most expensive.</summary>

&lt;p&gt;Does anyone&amp;nbsp;NOT publish a notice in a local newspaper&amp;nbsp;for Appeal Public Hearings?&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;We have been told that it is not a requirement but it is persumed it will take place unless the circumstances are exceptional.&lt;/p&gt;
