Most dangerous jobs -not always the ones you think
When you think of the most dangerous jobs you probably think of fire fighters, deep sea divers, miners and lumberjacks but probably not the people who deliver your weekly groceries.
We had our weekly home delivery the other day. The usually cheerful delivery driver was clearly upset and wanted to talk about the previous drop off. The elderly customer got angry because one of his items wasn’t available and he didn’t like or want the substitute. The problem was that this brought back distressing memories of the time he was held hostage!
Making a delivery to a regular customs the elderly man got up set when an item was damaged in transit. He rejected the offer of a refund and insisted the driver contact his supervisor to bring a replacement and then locked the door and refused to let the driver out. The drive contacted his supervisor who realising the difficulty the driver was in and wishing to deescalate the situation agreed to come round with a replacement item. When he arrived he was let in but the door was immediately locked again. The customer didn’t like the replacement and insisted on a cash refund. The supervisor explained he was not able to provide a cash refund but the account would be credited. No it had to be cash , now. Despite prostrations that delivery drivers did not carry cash the customer was insistent.
The police were called and the “hostages “ released. The supermarket decided not to press charges but banned the customer.
