Published in October 2018, the Benefit Transfer Study aimed to understand the economic value that cultural institutions in England currently provided to visitors and non-visitors. There is a need to value cultural institutions and the benefits they bring otherwise there is a risk that there is an under appreciation of the social value of cultural investment. The study has relevance as three museums included within the study are located within the North; the Great North Museum in Newcastle, the National Railway Museum in York and the Liverpool World Museum.

The mean willingness to pay (WTP) of visitors was £6.01 - £7.79 in entrance fees across the 4 museums. The mean non-use WTP was £2.79 - £4.06 in annual donations across the 4 museums. The mean WTP values that were found were similar enough to support transferability between the 4 museums. The Study outlines when would be best to utilise each of the three explored methods for future data analysis work.
