Published in May 2019, this document reports on the government’s Estate Strategy aims to identify and release surplus central government land, with the goal of delivering 300,000 homes a year by the mid-2020s. The report covers programme performance to the end of December 2018, and progress on the aim to release 160,000 homes by the end of March 2020.

The five departments (MHCLG, MoD, DfT, DHSC and MoJ) that have made the biggest contribution commitments are reviewed for their progress. Best practice case studies from the programme are littered throughout, and four next steps being taken by various government bodies to accelerate and identify more land for release are discussed.
