Car Travel Econometrics
Published in October 2018, the Department for Transport’s Car Travel Econometrics Report uses the National Travel Survey to quantify the relative importance of different factors on car travel demand using econometric analysis. Specifically, it considers the relationship between socioeconomic and demographic characteristics, and the decision to hold a driving licence, to own or share a car, and how far to drive.
The analysis draws out factors that increase or decrease the likelihood of holding a driving licence, with further analysis looking into the variations of factors across different regions.
