Published in August 2011, Julia Markovich and Karen Lucas’ ‘The Social and Distributional Impacts of Transport: A Literature Review’ synthesises and critically evaluates the currently disparate literatures relating to the social impacts and equity of transport, transport disadvantage as it affects different social groups, and the wider interactions between transport poverty and social exclusion.

This Report summarises what is known about these issues at the present time, identifies gaps in the knowledge base and draws attention to opportunities for further research. The working paper is designed to contribute to a wider scoping study of this topic, which has been funded by the Economic and Social Research Council of Great Britain.
