Published in February 2019, Transport for the North’s Connectivity and Labour Markets in the Northern Powerhouse report explains the role that transport can play in achieving the Northern Powerhouse Independent Economic Review’s (NPIER) transformational scenario.

The report summarises key historical trends across Northern labour markets, current skills levels and what skills levels will be required by 2050 to deliver transformational growth including an analysis of future trends on employment in the future, disaggregated at Local Authority level. The report then goes on to provide analysis of how transport investment could support transformational growth through reduced journey times creating larger labour market catchment areas and the potential for greater commuting across Local Authority areas.
