A research & policy report published by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, focusing on the role of transport in access to employment in economically deprived areas. The report presents evidence from interviews with 79 residents in six case study areas, four of which are in the North of England (Harpurhey (Manchester), Hattersley (Tameside), Seacroft (Leeds) and Dewsbury Moor (Kirklees)). The core finding “is that public transport is all too often seen as something that constrains rather than enables a return to work, because of a lack of affordable and reliable transport that gets people to locations where there is suitable work”. The report provides recommendations to government and transport authorities on overcoming these barriers.
