A 2011 report published by the Sustainable Development Commission, focusing on the equality impacts of the UK transport system at the time, and the issue of car dependency in particular. The core outcome of the report is that “[n]ot only do vulnerable groups travel less than other people, they carry a greater burden of the costs of other people’s travel. In other words they are both ‘less travelled’ and ‘travelled-upon’. The impacts they experience can be severe: chronic air pollution and noise, traffic danger, higher rates of injury and crime”. Methodologically, the report presents analysis of public travel behaviour datasets, and combines this with datasets on public health and inequality.
