Although published in 2018, this report is very relevant today in COVID-19 recovery planning. The report examines a selection of new suburban housing developments and identifies major and consistent gaps in walkability and public transport connectivity. The authors argue that by identifying sites first and considering transport connections later, developers and planners miss a vital opportunity to design healthier, more inclusive communities. Through a comparison to developments in Utrecht, Almere and Eindhoven, the Netherlands the authors demonstrate the opportunities than can be unlocked by reversing this approach.
