Curbing excess: high energy consumption and the fair energy transition

In February 2022, the Centre for Research into Energy Demand Solutions (CREDS) published their report looking at the consumption patters of high-end and excessive consumption in households in the UK, to understand the reasons for high energy use and the structural, social, cultural and economic influences on these behaviours. The report shows that just 11% of the UK population accounts for nearly 44% of total car mileage. These high-mileage car travellers are disproportionally concentrated in richer households.
