The by-election for Chesham/Amersham in Buckinghamshire has raised
lots of interest in the role of planning matters in this unexpected
result. Buckinghamshire residents' action groups have now come
together to articulate their planning concerns in an open letter,
attached. One of these action groups has released two documentaries
outlining the planning issues they have experienced, including such
things as apparently arbitrary changes to HELAA, sidelining NPPF
sustainability considerations, the role of planning officers,
transport consultants, biodiversity scrutiny and the relationship
between officers and developers. How widespread are such issues, and
how are other councils responding to them? Has the Chesham/Amersham
result had an impact on how Councils are engaging with such issues -
and with communities - with regard to planning?
