Published in July 2019, the Department for Transport’s Transport and Inequality report presents findings from a review of the current academic literature on the relationships between transport and socio-economic inequality (the uneven distribution of income and wealth) and the scale of those links, the extent to which they vary across groups, and the effectiveness of transport policies in contributing towards reducing inequality. The reviewed evidence includes case studies from across the world including Northern areas such as Greater Manchester, Merseyside, and Sheffield City Region.
