Evaluation

This evidence review identifies some of the lessons from evaluations of light rail, heavy rail, and high speed rail schemes, both in the UK and abroad. It identifies a major evidence gap, particularly around the spatial impact of rail investment and the effects on house prices, and highlights the role that strategic transport bodies could play in addressing this. It also identifies some of the possible risks of rail investment schemes, such as population displacement. that need to be factored into future scheme development.
