This is a short briefing on the latest results from the High Streets Recovery Tracker, published by Centre for Cities, which includes an array of insights into spending and footfall in northern city and town centres. There had been a solid recovery in high street footfall and spending in northern cities by 30th November and in fact four of the top ten towns for footfall recovery were in the North of England. The results also show that with the exception of London, the recovery from the second lockdown was far more evenly spread than the recovery from the first. However, these results are yet to reflect the latest Omicron wave, which has again taken a significant toll on retail and hospitality activity.
