As the green transition accelerates, job losses in high carbon sectors and job gains in green sectors are likely to be highly uneven, leading to skills shortages in some places and increased unemployment in others. Local and regional industrial / investment strategies need to be able to respond proactively to this. Leeds-based The Data City and WPI Economics were commissioned by Central London Forward to predict ‘size of the prize’ in Central London in terms of potential employment growth in green sectors, to empower better evidenced decision-making across skills, infrastructure, and innovation. WYCA has commissioned similar analysis for West Yorkshire and this methodology is well placed to be applied elsewhere.
