Over the late May bank holiday weekend, an extensive outbreak of COVID at the Weston General Hospital in North Somerset was identified, leading to a closure of the hospital to new admissions, including attendance at the emergency department. It also led to a delay in school reopening by a week. The outbreak was identified following national NHS introduction of testing for hospital inpatients. This document contains some of the lessons from that outbreak. It contains an outbreak management checklist for what to do if there is an outbreak, including actions on data and comms. It also lists key challenges with recommended response.
