Call for papers: CIWEM Scottish Branch Symposium 2018

CIWEM Scottish Branch partners with Scotland's Sustainable Development Goals Network

The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) Scottish Branch Symposium 2018 is being delivered in partnership with Scotland's Sustainable Development Goals Network.

CIWEM, the leading international Royal Chartered professional body dedicated to the water and environment sector, will be holding the Scottish Branch Symposium and Annual Dinner on Wednesday 13th June 2018 in Stirling.

Why have we been asked to be partners?

The objective of the symposium is to review how the UN Sustainable Development Goals can fit into Urban Design in Scotland. This event will present innovative case studies, collaborative approaches and facilitate discussion.

How can Network members get involved?

The call for abstracts (full flyer here) is now open and CIWEM welcome papers addressing the five following UN Sustainable Development goals:

  • Health & Wellbeing
  • Sustainable Cities & Communities
  • Responsible Consumption & Production
  • Climate Action
  • Partnerships for the Goals

All abstracts should be concise, and state results, objectives or key components of the paper. They should not exceed 300 words and should contain a list of intended presenter(s) clearly separate from authors and email addresses for all involved. A maximum of two presenters for each paper is allowed.

An electronic copy (in doc format) must be submitted before 5pm on 2nd April to | Branch Secretary

There's more...

We're looking for a network member to open up the conference with someone from CIWEM – to talk about the SDG network, the SDGs in Scotland more broadly and, of course, a little bit about your own work and why the SDGs matter to you. This will be 10-15 minute introduction. You'll be well briefed, but the ideal person is someone who has been involved with the network for some time and possibly engaged with previous work with the Rio Group and the post-2015 group in Scotland.

If you are interested, please email Paul Bradley with a short summary of why you are interested in taking on this role.

Blog for us...

Perhaps you're busy on 13th June, or submitting an abstract isn't for you? That doesn't mean you cannot get involved. We're looking for blogs from people on how the SDGs can fit into Urban Design in Scotland that we can publish in the run up to the conference. We'll share these on, the SCVO website and with CIWEM.

If you have any questions then please get in touch. I'd be grateful to hear from willing volunteers to open the conference and do let me know if you choose to submit an abstract.
