New Progress out of Poverty Index Indicators added to the Global Value Exchange

Over 600 poverty indicators have been added to the Global Value Exchange, covering the 55 countries which are home to 90% of the people surviving on $1.25/day globally.

Ppi

These indicators have been extracted from the Progress out of Poverty Index™ (PPI), a measurement tool providing a statistically sound way of estimating a household’s likelihood of falling below national and international poverty lines. The PPI is an interesting technique of poverty measurement, using sets of 10 simple questions which cover a range of household characteristics such as levels of education, sector of employment, and material possessions. Indicators relating to the total PPI for each country have also been uploaded.

We think these indicators are particularly exciting as they are country specific, and take into account the various factors which mean a traditional assessment of a household’s income may be too difficult or time consuming a method of poverty measurement for many organisations.
