Becky Gudka, a medical student from Exeter University, has
interviewed creators and users of MEDMI, the Medical and Environmental
Data Mash-up Infrastructure project and created an insightful video.
MEDMI has brought together leading organisations in climate, weather,
environment and health to explore how big data can be used in health
research. The video presents why data linkage is important and how it
works. The video interviews with researchers and national leaders in
the fields of weather, climate and public health includes:
· Examples of data linkage in practice using the university’s
MEDMI Platform from a selection of research projects;
· Why data linkage is key for research and the development of policy;
· The new national capability in the EPHSS (Environmental
Public Health Surveillance System) provided by the UK Health Security
Agency (UKHSA).

We are planning to open EPHSS to external users in 2022, so please
get in touch via epht@phe.gov.uk if you would like to use the
system when it becomes available.
