What a fire drill tells you about your corporate culture

Dear All,

I am fascinated by the idea of corporate culture. So much of our time and effort is focused on dealign with it, even if we are not aware of it. We may believe that the highest issues are strategy or delivery. Yet, neither of these is doine without reference to an organisation's culture.

For many people, corporate culture may appear vague and uncertain, somethign that exists but no one ever sees. Often times, organisations will hire consultants or undertake employee focus groups and surveys to measure "employee enegagement" as a proxy for culture.

If culture can be understood as "the way we do business around here", then I want to suggest a humble tool for helping you understand your corporate culture--the fire drill.

The attached article explains the idea in more detail. I would be interested in your views either here or on the blog.
