Muslim Network Health Event- Inequalities in Muslim communities

Muslim Network Health Event- Inequalities in Muslim communities

Starting 17 March 2020 15:15 through to 17 March 2020 18:00

The Muslim Network Health Collaboration will be hosting our Annual event this year on the 17th March 2020. The focus of this years event is Inequalities in Muslim communities, what needs to change??

This event will see the Collaboration showcasing its achievements from 2019 and sharing the new priorities for 2020.

Speakers include Simon Stevens, Chief Executive Officer for NHS England and NHS Improvement, and Chris Bentley, Senior Advisor to Public Health England, as well as several other senior leaders from Public Health England, NHS England & NHS Improvement, Department of Health and Social Care and the wider Civil Service.

With the NHS Long Term Plan putting additional emphasis on social prescribing and anchor institutions, the event will explore how Mosques can be used to improve health in Muslim communities. One way this can be achieved is through local health promotion activities, making the Mosque not just a place for people to pray, but also a community hub which includes a health focus.

Several Mosques have showcased some great examples of health promotion and inclusivity  in the last year. Examples of this include disability week, hosting Macmillan coffee mornings, Autism Hours and several talks around cancer screening and mental health. With a large reach, this could be a solution to the increased constraints the NHS and health services face. Some of these Mosques will be in attendance to share their work and to discuss potential further collaboration.

This event will also be an opportunity for members to network with other members from across the country, as well as discuss and feedback on the network priorities for the year and how the network could better engage to support health promotion.

Please join us for this afternoon of enlightenment and hear what the Collaboration has planned for you in the next year.
