The Home Office Policing Order which came into effect on 16 January 2012 has been posted here in the library for reference. The Order was highlighted recently in an ‘information for local’ message dated 21 February 2012: It is also available via the following link Home Office: Policing protocol(HTML format) Further detail / explanation The Order issues the Secretary of State’s Policing Protocol which is required under section 79 of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011. It is designed to set out the ways in which relevant parties should exercise functions (or refrain from exercising) so as to encourage, maintain or improve working relationships and limit or prevent overlap and duplication. Relevant parties for the purpose of the protocol are the Secretary of State (in the exercise of her policing functions), elected local policing bodies (namely police and crime commissioners and the Mayor‘s Office for Policing and Crime), chief officers of police forces maintained by elected local policing bodies, and police and crime panels . The protocol was previously consulted on and several changes have been made from the earlier draft version.
