The Flood and Water Management Act 2010 identifies new responsibilities for flood and coastal erosion risk management authorities together with a duty on all relevant authorities involved to co-operate. The Act also provides lead local flood authorities and the Environment Agency with a power to request information required from other parties in connection with their flood risk management responsibilities. This guidance sets out what co-operation means for the purposes of the Act in England and how the power to request information should be exercised in a reasonable way. The aim of the guidance is to facilitate constructive and active partnerships to manage flood and coastal erosion risk, and to ensure that where information is requested this is done in a suitable manner.
