You’re on Fire
When you hear that music you can’t help but see that scene where Rocky runs up a long flight of steps in front of City hall throwing punches and jabbing fists in double quick time. At the top he bounces on the spot continuing to shadow box, duck and weave before jumping up in the air arms aloft in victory.
You’re pumped. Imagine going to work some place that made you feel that excited that energised.
This is the type of workplace where things get done, where you feel empowered , motivated, and confident. It’s a lively environment with a positive vibe. Colleagues are talking, debating, joking and laughing. It may be an old building but the walls are painted pale green or pale yellow (no magnolia here) giving the office a fresh sunny look. The staff are dressed smart but casual, the managers don’t wear suits and ties ( although some of the younger team members seem to be holding unofficial , “ dress up “ Fridays when they do where suits and ties with their trainers!)
Everyone agrees this is a good place to work, everyone is friendly, management treat employees as people not robots, they feel respected and valued, achievements are acknowledged and celebrated as are birthdays. There are set backs and disappointments but the managers are very good at re enthusing everyone by “ reminding us of past successes and inspiring us by their confidence in our ability to bounce back.” “ They make us feel that together we can achieve anything.”
This isn’t some trendy Californian start up company. This is a boring north of England Local Authority and yet they are clearly on fire.
