Energy & Listed Building Workshop

Events - Public

Starting 27 Jun 2014 - 11:00 through to 27 Jun 2014 - 17:01

English Heritage notes that there are approximately 374,081 listed building entries in England. As energy bills rise, it is important to find ways to improve the energy performance of these buildings to ensure their continued use in an energy constrained future, whilst respecting their importance as heritage assets.

The aim of the workshop is to look at positive next steps that can be taken within the listed building consent regime. A full agenda will follow shortly, but we anticipate the main items being as follows:

•National update, including English Heritage’s emerging Good Practice Advice Note on the Sustainable Use of Energy in Traditional buildings which is being developed in conjunction with the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE).

• Examples of action to promote sensitive retrofit of listed buildings from local authorities and organisations with a large listed building stock

• Discussion of current opportunities, challenges, and possibilities for action

Since heritage professionals have been extensively consulted during the development of the English Heritage Advice Note, this workshop will also seek the views of those with responsibility for other objectives relating to energy performance in listed buildings, such as tackling fuel poverty and climate change.
