Starting 14 May 2014 - 10:20 through to 14 May 2014 - 17:31

About the Event:

Our National Driving Forward Diversity in the Police Conference comes amid proposals to introduce ‘direct entry’ schemes aiming to improve diversity across the police service. Ethnic minority officer strength currently stands at 5% and female officers at 27%. With this reducing to 3.8% and 16% respectively at Chief Inspector rank and above,* now is the time to address the issue of diversity in the policing landscape and deliver a step-change in the culture of forces across the country.

Key issues addressed on the day include:

• Developing a robust equality and diversity strategy
Meeting the operational need through better diversity
• Promoting cultural and behavioural change throughout the organisation
Innovative initiatives to improve uptake from key groups
• Improving workforce support for female, disabled, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) officers

Expert Speakers Include:

Chair: Franstine Jones, Diversity Officer, Suffolk Constabulary and President, National Black Police Association
• Keynote: Alfred Hitchcock, Chief Constable, Ministry of Defence and National Policing Lead for Equality Diversity and Human Resources
Joanna Young, Chief Superintendent, Metropolitan Police and Human Resources Business Area Lead, Police Superintendents’ Association of England and Wales
