Exploring Climate Change, Collaboration and Climate Justice

Events - Public

Starting 17 Nov 2014 - 09:00 through to 17 Nov 2014 - 10:30

On the 17th November, many people involved in tackling climate change related issues in the Highlands will be in Inverness to attend the Carbon CLEVER Conference with its theme of collaboration.

With this in mind, we would like to invite you to a breakfast session, to discuss and explore what meaningful collaboration means in practice in the Highlands – and how we might broaden and deepen our collaboration to engage with other organisations, communities and people not yet involved in climate change related activity.

This is very much an exploratory session and is designed to complement the Carbon CLEVER Conference. However you do not need to be attending the conference to come along and participate, nor do you need to have any expertise or experience in climate change policies or projects. Our focus will on collaboration with a view to achieving better outcomes for people in the Highlands and beyond.

The agenda of the session will be very much in the hands of the participants. To help frame this conversation, though, we would like to explore the concept of climate justice. In essence, climate justice is a people-centred human rights approach to tackling the causes and impacts of climate change. Questions that might arise, for example, are: Who are the unheard voices in climate change policies and projects? How might we go about hearing those voices? What are the implications of this in terms of who we collaboratewith and how? And what might this mean for our leadership behaviours and practices?

Carbon CLEVER is a Highland Council led initiative which has a target of a carbon neutral Inverness in a low carbon Highlands by 2025.
