Now that the outcome of the General Election is known, we can expect Police and Crime Commissioners and Police and Crime Panels to continue for another five years. The Conservative Party manifesto on policing and crime (see summary at http://goo.gl/3n3ZJL) covered a large number of challenges in this area but specifically stated: “We will enable fire and police services to work more closely together and develop the role of our elected and accountable Police and Crime Commissioners.”
Since PCCs and PCPs are to remain, the conference will explore the challenges that PCPs face, including the significant financial pressures facing many Police Forces which were underlined by a high-profile media campaign during the election. The conference will also consider the potential for PCPs to continue to innovate.
