The objective of the HERKULES program was to equip the employees of the German Armed Forces with modern, reliable, secure and economical ICT.

System implementation offers extraordinary challenges to IT professionals and the organisations impacted by the implementation. The new nationwide IT infrastructure includes 140,000 end-user systems, 300,000 landline and 15,000 mobile phones, as well as a 12,000 kilometre-long, high-performance wide area network. Almost 45,000 users work with a centralised and fully integrated SAP-based software solution. A PPP alliance combines the expertise of the German Armed Forces and industry to master the program scheduled for ten years. In this hour I will lead you through executing the inputs, controls, resources to outputs from the initial stages to completion success.

Since 2013 Silke Schönert is a Professor for Business Information Systems and Project Management at the University of Applied Science in Cologne.
