Insight Tour: Edinburgh Castle Going Green
Events - PublicStarting 25 Nov 2016 - 10:00 through to 25 Nov 2016 - 12:00
Situated in the heart of Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh Castle is an instantly recognisable landmark for all the right reasons. Made up of 27 individual buildings and supporting an infrastructure that welcomes over one million visitors every year, it is no surprise that the castle is the biggest energy user in Historic Environment Scotland’s portfolio of properties in care.
Over the past few years we have been working hard to reduce the Castle’s energy usage with some fantastic savings achieved. Since our baseline year of 2008/09, energy consumption has reduced by over 30%. This has been realised through a programme of works implemented in and around the castle.
We are inviting you to come on a behind the scenes tour, to see first-hand many of the energy saving techniques we have successfully applied at the castle. The tour will be given by our District Architect for the castle, Bruce Chandler, along with members of the Climate Change Team who will be on hand to answer any of your questions.
This tour is included in the Edinburgh Castle admission price, but booking is essential. Refreshments provided.
Tickets for this event will be released shortly. Please email technicaleducation@hes.scot to be notified when they are.
Please be aware certain locations on this Insight Tour are only accessible by ascending and descending steps.
