Many books have been written and courses devised around the nature of ‘leadership’, and it is frequently cited as one of the most important contributing factors in high performing projects.

At this event Ben Pinches will consider the paradox that project leadership is both simple practice and complicated art form. He will explore the importance of clear articulation of the Vision, and the strong links between this, stakeholder identification and benefits management.

Organisations often find the articulation of benefits difficult, and struggle with their prioritisation and delivery. He will explore together why this is so, and begin to map out some pragmatic methods for benefits realisation. The APM’s Body of Knowledge will be explicitly referred to and used as a way of understanding some of the challenges behind this core skill.

Benedict starts with the research project into benefits realisation funded by the Department of Health and draws on his experience as technical advisor to the Major Projects Association. As well as presenting the findings of the research, he looks at the importance of stakeholder engagement as well as stakeholder identification for major IT projects.

The act of defining benefits will play a central part in deconstructing the process.
