Every project manager must negotiate. Whether agreeing deadlines, gaining buy-in from stakeholders or settling the terms and conditions of a contract, the success or failure of negotiators directly impacts an organisation's bottom line and ensures the continuing viability of precious working relationships.

Negotiators are invaluable to business and their skills highly sought after. But no one becomes a negotiator from a standing start. Negotiating skills are learned and develop with practice. As such, mistakes are commonly made along this learning process - and they are often the same ones.

This interactive session with a leading negotiating coach will share top tips in negotiation and the steps you can take to avoid these common errors.

Following his highly successful showing at the APM WiPM Conference, James Thomas will return to share top tips that will help you broker more profitable deals. Subject areas covered in James's session include:

• The psychology of negotiation

• Personal negotiation styles

• Does fairness exist in negotiation?

• Factors that affect the balance of power

• The differences between competitive and collaborative negotiation

There will be an opportunity to ask questions and input in discussions at any time.
