Prisoners Building Eco Homes Programme

featuring

Mark Shelford

Police and Crime Commissioner for Avon and Somerset and Vice Chair of the South West Reducing Reoffending Partnership

and Guests

Re-offending costs £18.1 billion every year.  P eople who leave prison with strong foundations in place to make a success of their lives are less likely to reoffend – a stable home, a steady job, and good health, free from substance misuse.  Employment plays a key role in cutting crime, providing people with the opportunity to gain independence and contribute to wider society

This exciting initiative sees prisoners working with modular housing providers to build low carbon, modular homes for local communities and vulnerable people across the South West. It provides an opportunity to reduce reoffending by ensuring prisoners learn the skills they need to help secure employment upon their release, whilst addressing the affordable housing crisis in the South West.

In this free seminar Mark Shelford and guest speakers will discuss the programme, highlight its benefits, explain the barriers encountered and explore how the programme can be rolled out nationally.
