A paper by Madeleine Waller (Kings College London) and Paul Waller (Bradford University) that examines the use, deployment and risks of algorithms in decision making by public sector organisations.  It argues the importance of understanding the approaches being taken, assessing their potential and risk.  It concludes that algorithms have their uses to solve some problems but those relating to predicting real life have many shortcomings with much work still necessary before being safe and trusted for use.
