Overview

Many older people are missing out on Pension Credit despite being eligible for this extra income which could make a meaningful difference to their financial wellbeing.

To mark Pension Awareness Week, we’ll be joined by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to learn more about Pension Credit, who can claim it, and the financial support it can unlock.

The session will also provide an overview of the State Pension, including payment amounts, and the factors that can affect what someone receives.

Who is this session for?

  • Money guidance practitioners in the third, community, and public benefit sectors. If you’re a volunteer or member of staff and talk to people about money in your role, this session is for people like you!
  • Money guiders who want to improve their understanding of Pension Credit and the State Pension to better support the people they help.

What to expect

The event will cover:

  • What Pension Credit is and who is eligible
  • The additional financial support that could be available to those receiving Pension Credit
  • How Pension Credit is calculated, including what income, savings and benefits are taken into account
  • The difference between the new State Pension and the basic State Pension
