Welcome to the Northern Evidence Hub

Transport for the North’s Economics and Research team, in partnership with the NP11 and the Convention of the North, have been working to develop a central source of evidence for Northern policy makers; the Northern Evidence Hub (NEH). It is an online resource that hosts up-to-date evidence from a range of policy areas relevant to Northern policymakers. The aim of this platform is to facilitate knowledge sharing across the North to ensure that Northern policy is rooted in robust evidence.

The evidence on the Northern Evidence Hub spans a wide range of subject areas. The base of the platform is the Northern Powerhouse Independent Economic Review, an ambitious and far-reaching, multi-workstream project led by TfN and other key stakeholders in the North, and branches out to wider topics such as spatial planning, health and the environment.

We recognise the challenge that Northern organisations face in keeping up to speed with the latest evidence across a huge range of sources. TfN have developed the evidence base to support the launch of the Northern Evidence Hub and we have worked with consultants to produce high quality summaries of key evidence sources relevant to colleagues developing policy in a Northern context. These summaries aim to set out the key messages in a non-technical format, with longer two-page summaries setting out key documents in more detail. Each evidence source also contains a link to the full resource, so that users can explore the evidence further where they feel it useful.

The aim of the Northern Evidence Hub is for the site to become a collaborative platform where users can share the latest evidence. In order to keep the library up to date and relevant we ask that you share published reports that you have found useful and may be useful to other policymakers in the North.
