Pay-as-you-drive: the British public's views on vehicle taxation reform

There is growing recognition that vehicle taxation needs to be reformed to adapt to the rapid rise of electric vehicles to prevent a 'cliff edge' of taxation revenue, and several other negative impacts. Polling over 3000 people, this is the most detailed research to date on what the British public think about the different alternatives to the current system. The reserach demonstrates that once people understand the issues, there is widespread recognition of the need for reform. The report also identifies several ways that a new 'pay per mile' taxation regime could be made fairer.
