General Permitted Development
I live on a 5 acre registered smallholding in a small conservative village. We installed a mobile home recently as we have 3 children of our own, one who lives with us and the others who are with us during university holidays. Normally there is room in the house, however I have an older stepdaughter with mental health problems who can onlylook after her 3 very small children during their school holidays if she stays with a family member. As her mother is dead that only leaves my husband and we bought the mobile as family overflow. A neighbour complained and a very nice council member came and explained that it was okay as long as it was only for that purpose.
Now we want to sell up and move but both house and land look sadly neglected and we need to get the best price possible. We have planning permission for some updates and there is a lot that could be done outside without permission. We have no savings, however we have 2 friends who would like to keep their 3 horses with us and pay us livery. They want to live on the smallholding in their converted lorry and while one works in a conventional job as a business manager, the other who has practical skills would help us put these improvements in place, using the livery money. It would be a bit like a Wwoof or Help X arrangement and would be for a year only. Then the house would hopefully be a lot more marketable. Would General Permitted Development Schedule 2 Part 5 referring to the Caravan Sites Act of 1960 allow us to do this?
