Powers and Duties is an LGA service that gives the legal duty under which local authorities must provide a service and the legal powers which authorities may provide a service.

Powers & Duties is a service provided by the LGA’s LG Inform Plus suite of programs. It helps you understand what each English or Welsh council is required by law to do (duty) and what current legislation allows you to do (power). You can search more than 3,500 duties and powers to see the legislation that defines them and to see which service(s) from the Local Government Services List should be provided to meet legal obligations.
