Carers Trust Scotland is hosting an online Young Carers in Education Learning Exchange (free) on Tuesday 16 November between 9.15am – 12.30pm.
As you will be aware many children and young people had differences experiences during lockdown. Some found themselves taking on new caring roles and many who were already young carers reported an increase in caring responsibilities. The Scottish Government recognise that there are at least 29,000 young carers in Scotland. Further survey work by young carers services and Carers Trust Scotland show that 1 in 5 children in a class has a caring role, however, the number of young carers recorded across schools in Scotland is significantly lower. Many young carers find it a difficult to juggle their education and caring which can cause pressure and stress, with the right support being at school can be respite for a pupil who is a carer. Without support, many young carers find school a challenge.
The Learning Exchange will include three workshops which highlight good practice on partnership working and ways you can improve support to young carers in education. The event will be facilitated by Mr Ollie Bray, Strategic Director for Education Scotland. Speakers also include Scottish Government, Education Scotland and young carers.
