Yesterday saw me battling my way across London despite the tube strike, to head up to Birmingham for CommsCamp15. It was well worth the effort, as I found myself inspired and enthused by the conversations. Last night I took part in a pub quiz with a number of colleagues. Apart from a lot of fun and hilarity, I learnt that the game subbuteo gets its name from a bird 'subbuteo falco' (bird of prey) and that items that used to be called Hanways are actually umbrellas.

Today I stumbled across an interesting discussion on Twitter: #nzlead. Turns out it’s a tweet chat that happens every week on a Thursday, originating in New Zealand, but generating responses internationally. I had the pleasure of attending a very interesting Melcrum member event last week, which aimed to explore how delegates could maximise the strategic impact of their internal communications with limited resource.
For me the main themes of the day centred on two words:
Involving – engaging staff with the business so they are motivated to go the extra mile and in turn become more productive....

It was great to see social media high on the agenda for day one of this year’s LGCommunications conference in Birmingham, which I attended on Tuesday.
Indeed the first publication I picked up as I arrived was the Government Digital Service’s new publication Social media guidance for civil servants.
